6 Reasons Why You Should Get Woolly This Winter - The Benefits of Wool

Winter is just around the corner and that means time to wrap up warm! Not that you need a reason to fill your home with wonderful, warm woolly products...

...but here a six anyway!

1.     It will keep you warm all winter long.

Wool is an excellent insulator, this is because wool fibres are not perfectly smooth or straight, they are instead more curly and wavy. This means that lots of little air pockets are created which then retain heat, much like how the insulation in your walls work. This ensures you’ll be kept nice a toastie all winter long.

2.     It will stay wonderful.

Wool is as strong and resilient as the sheep it comes from, that endure cold harsh winters on the hillside. Wool fibres can be bent 20,000 times without breaking and act like a spring, which allows it to return to its natural shape, not becoming quickly worn out and going firm and flat. It also has an amazing ability to hold dye, allowing for a fantastic variety of woollen fabrics in every shade, pattern and texture you can imagine, making it the perfect material for beautiful interior design that will also last the test of time.

3.     It will make your life easier.

This one is a bit of hard sell but stay with me I’ll explain. You see wool is ‘Naturally Anti-static’ meaning it generates very little static electricity. How does this make your life easier I hear you say… Well static attracts dust and dirt and so it’s anti-static properties keep it cleaner for longer, woohoo! Even more than that, the outside surface of wool fibre is a sequence of overlapping structures, creating a sort of dirt catching web which means the dirt sits on the outside surface, making it extremely easy to clean up with a quick going over with the Dyson (other vacuum cleaners are available). This fantastic super structure also means it does not absorb spills quickly, allowing time for that little spillage of spritzer to be blotted up easily instead of leaving a sullen stain for eternity like on other less adequate materials.

4.     It can be good for your health.

No this hasn’t come from some new scientific experiment that claims it can cure all your ailments in life, however wool does have some very interesting properties you may not have known about. It is hypoallergenic, which means it is resistant to bacteria, mould and mildew that can be the causes to trigger allergic reactions. As well as this, wool actually cleans the internal air in your house. It does this through its unique natural cell structure that absorbs harmful pollutants from the air; furthermore it does not re-emit them and keeps them locked up forever in its core. It is estimated that wool used in interiors can help purify the air for 30 years!

5.     It will keep you and your house smelling fresh.

Wool is naturally odour-resistant, unlike synthetic fabrics like polyester and polypropylene that begin to retain odours overtime. You therefore can curl up in front of the TV, with the fire on, eating that cheeky chicken curry, without the worry that your going to leave your lovely new wool throw with undesired smells

6.     Last but not least, wool is Eco-friendly!

Wool actually uses significantly less energy during its production than manufacturing man made fibres. The production of wool produces lower carbon dioxide emissions and so a lower carbon impact on the earth. Wool is also recyclable, old wool fabric can be recycled for many uses, including insulation and geotextiles, as well as being an effective compost as it slowly releases nitrogen rich nutrients back to the soil.

So if you fancy some lovely wool products that are easy to maintain, will stay smelling fresh whilst cleaning your air, keeping you allergy free, and that are going to stay wonderful for a long time and keep you cosy all through the winter whilst also looking after the environment, then why don’t you have a look at Interior Gifts where you will find a lovely range of wool throws and cushions amongst other beautiful hand selected products that will make amazing presents for your loved ones or a cheeky treat for yourself :)
