Product Aftercare & Maintenance
RAW OAK PRODUCTS
Our oak designs are made using raw kiln dried oak from Hungary as well as China. In general, our Hungarian oak is more rustic so that more of the natural grain and some knots are visible. It is precisely this unvarnished raw finish that attracts us to this design. Preserving the finish of our oak furniture is straightforward and usually requires simply wiping with a damp, soft cloth. Being raw oak and pale in finish, the tables can be scrubbed occasionally with soap and water to regain a paler unmarked finish. We recommend that common sense is applied so that hot items are placed on a trivet or coaster rather than directly onto the table. Water, wine, oil will all mark the table over time, so we recommend applying a Hard Wax Oil when you first put your table in place as it will provide a level of protection, but crucially will not change the colour and finish of the product. Although our wood has been kiln dried, please ensure all new pieces of furniture are not placed within 1 metre of a radiator/heat source. Being a natural material, wood can shrink and/or expand when exposed to sudden changes of temperature. In some cases, this can lead to fine hairline cracks. Please be aware that these changes won’t affect the durability or lifespan of your furniture - they’re part of the nature of wood and are not a structural defect.
CARING FOR YOUR WOOL THROWS & BLANKETS
Our Pure New Wool Tweedmill Throws are recommended Cold Wash Only, our Lambswool Tweedmill Throws are Dry Clean Only. Our Pure New Wool Bronte (Shetland or Lambswool) throws and blankets are recommended Dry Clean Only. However, if you would like to machine wash your wool throws here are some guidelines. Wash the Throws on a cold gentle or delicate cycle in the washing machine (use a mild liquid detergent made especially for wool - never use biological powder) with a very low spin. They are best hung to line dry on a warm day (but avoid strong direct sunlight). If the weather does not permit this, try and lie them flat on a clothes horse to air dry.
CANDLES AND LANTERNS
We sell a range of candles and lantern products. For safety reasons, it is important to never leave lit candles burning when unattended and children should be monitored at all times when candles are lit.
KEW POTS AND PLANTERS
These can be used for indoor or outdoor use, but we advise to bring them indoors during frosty weather as they are not frost proof.
These pots and planters do not come with holes in them as quite often, especially indoors, this is not desired. If you are using your pot outdoors you may wish to drill a hole in the bottom for drainage purposes, this is best done with a masonry drill. When using a Masonry Drill it is essential to ensure that the drill is NOT on the hammer setting but on the standard drill setting. It is worth considering using a fairly small drill to make a pilot hole and then following along with the final size required. On a glazed surface putting a piece of masking tape where the hole is to be drilled will help to stop the drill skidding about.
